For more than one decade, we have been given the blessing, joy and honor to work alongside our friend Charles Yuyi. During this time, this relationship, we were allowed to experience many moments of great joy and satisfaction in our joint work at Mackenzie Community School. Our goal - to offer all our students a full primary education – has been a vision that Charles harbored from the very beginning.
Charles was there from the very start of the school, being one of the first two volunteers at the dawn of the new millennium who had the vision - and commitment - to provide access to basic education for all children in the community. The early classes under the mango tree in Mackenzie, the location of the school today, have left indelible marks on uncountable numbers of students.
We are especially thankful and proud of Charles that after having volunteered for many years, guiding and empowering students, Charles himself achieved one of his life’s milestones just recently, when he successfully completed and graduated from Kitwe Teachers College with a full teaching certificate.
The joy of these many years is now overshadowed by our mourning over the passing of a beloved friend, a founder of Mackenzie Community School and an exemplary human being. But together with all the dedicated staff and team members at Mackenzie Community School we will continue what Charles started - in his honor, memory and for the benefit of the children of Mackenzie.
