A quote attributed to the great sage Confucius says that those who move mountains begin with carrying away small stones. At the beginning of this new year 2021, we feel the truth of this statement. More than two decades ago, Mackenzie Community School was established as the result of the dreams and vision of dedicated community volunteers in this part of Ndola. They understood the importance and central role that quality education plays in the future of our children. Their dream was to offer all children in Mackenzie the opportunity of a full primary education as a first step towards even greater achievements.
Over the years, the circle of those who joined in this vision grew, within Mackenzie Community and far outside of Zambia. Obstacles arose over the years, which were patiently addressed, dismantling them stone by stone.
And in just the last years, many actually literally carried in stones to achieve the latest milestone in this journey, which we now celebrate: beginning in 2021, Mackenzie Community School for the first time will be able to offer full primary education from grade 1 up to grade 7 for our students! This not only eliminates intra-primary education transfers for our students, but also makes a fully valid education accessible to every child in Mackenzie.
At the beginning of this monumental year, we are thankful for all those who contributed to the fulfillment of this vision, our teachers, students, parents and also especially supporters far and near. And a special thanks in our hearts goes to those whose vision started this journey and who no longer are here with us - you are remembered.
