Review of iChange's Activities in 2024 and Outlook for 2025

In 2024, iChange was once again actively involved at the Mackenzie Community School. Initially, the construction of new toilets was planned, as the existing infrastructure was no longer sufficient for over 460 students and school staff. Thanks to a new water supply system, which we implemented in 2023 with a borehole, pump, and water tank, we had the perfect foundation for this project.

Modernization of the Toilet Facilities

Since the construction of new toilets is currently not possible due to an ongoing legal dispute on the adjacent property, we renovated the existing toilets. The six toilets built in 2014 were connected to the new water supply system. All toilets were fitted with security doors to prevent misuse, and three new handwashing sinks were installed. Additionally, the school kitchen gained access to fresh water for the first time, significantly improving daily operations.

Renovation of the Infrastructure

In addition to the toilets, we also renovated part of the school buildings and stabilized the school gate to enhance security. A fresh coat of paint gave the school a friendlier appearance. These renovations help ensure that both students and staff can enjoy a safe and pleasant environment.

School Benches and Infrastructure Improvements

Given the increased number of students and the poor condition of many benches, especially the old wooden ones, we purchased 30 new, sturdy school benches. Inspired by our efforts, local organizations donated additional benches in the following months. We will continue to monitor the situation and, if necessary, organize additional benches to ensure that all over 460 students have adequate seating.

Outlook for Next Year

Next year will bring important projects. Once the ongoing legal dispute is resolved, we plan to build new toilets to expand the urgently needed infrastructure. Additionally, the expansion of the school will be evaluated to lay the foundation for introducing a senior school.

We will also continue with the renovation of the school buildings to consistently improve conditions for the students and respond to the growing needs of the school.
