Furnishing the new 5th Grade Classroom
During the project stay of two of our volunteers, iChange supported the Mackenzie Community School by completing and furnishing the new classroom, construction of which began in 2008. By completing work on the unfinished roof, this classroom is now also functional.
For the time being, the new classroom will be
used for miscellaneous activities as well as the existing classes. Beginning in
2010, coinciding with the new school year, the classroom will then be assigned
to the school's 5th grade students.

Completion of the New Roof
When 15 youth from the USA and Switzerland traveled to Zambia during 2008 in order to construct an additional classroom for the Mackenzie Community School, funding ran out prematurely. As a result, the roof for the new 5th grade classroom had to be left behind unfinished.
But now – finally – the necessary funds were raised. In particular from the USA financial support was received in order to complete this project step properly. Shortly before July we started with the necessary planning and implementation of this last step.

New English Books!
When the teachers at the St. Antonius High School in Appenzell had to temporarily vacate their meeting room due to construction, they decided to donate older textbooks and teaching materials for use in Zambia.
2nd grade classes at this high school are currently participating in the pen pal friendship program with students from the Mackenzie Community School. Since the middle of 2008 various students have regularly exchange letters with each other. Through these communications teachers at St. Antonius became aware of the shortage of teaching materials at Mackenzie Community School.
