Daniel Frei, one of the founders and current board member of iChange, has been awarded the 2018 Schaffhauser Grant for Development Cooperation ('Schaffhauser Preis für Entwicklungszusammenarbeit') on behalf of the iChange team. The CHF 25,000 grant will assist iChange in the necessary continued support and infrastructure investments at the Mackenzie Community School (MCS) in Ndola, Zambia.
After the successful completion of the first floor of the new classroom complex in 2017 (report), a second and final floor will be added in 2019. Thanks to the new classrooms, iChange will then have been able to equip Mackenzie Community School with the infrastructure necessary to offer a complete primary education to the children in Mackenzie Community.
Of the CHF 25,000 grant, CHF 15,000 will be directly utilized for the construction of the second and final classroom floor. The total cost of this project is budgeted at CHF 30,000, with the remainder being funded by private donations. The remaining grant funds (CHF 10,000) will support the school's necessary operating budget (e.g. teacher costs, training, school supplies).
